leaves | eren x reader [drabble]

   
    "Eren?" You asked calmly, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. The cool autumn air caused your cheeks to turn pink, and strands of your hair to curl around your face. The trees waved lightly, the vibrant leaves fluttering before a few break off of their branches and gracefully fall to the pavement. 

    "Yes, (y/n)?" Eren responded, he tightened his grip on your hand, absentmindedly swinging your entwined hands. With his free hand he pulled his scarf up, filtering the cold air out. 

    "I love you." You said, glancing up at your partner and giving him a sincere smile. He looked down at you, a small smile starting to form on his lips. 

    "I love you too." He said, letting go of your hand to wrap you in a warm embrace.

    "Eren?" You ask, placing your hands gingerly on his shoulders. The autumn breeze was back, and it was whipping at his hair. Today the air held no warm undertones. The leaves were no longer vibrant, they were dull. 

    He didn't respond. You frown, It's been months since you were able to talk to him. You've been staying at the same place, waiting for him to come back. For him to take you with him. He only shows up once a couple months. You never know when you'll be able to see him.

    "(y/n)?" You hear Eren ask. You smile slightly, hoping that Eren is finally able to see you. "I miss you." Your smile falters. If he misses you, why doesn't he just visit you more often?

    "Eren... I'm right here! Can't you see me!" You say quickly. Tears start forming in your eyes. You miss him too, and you know that you're not going to be able to get him back. 

    Eren slowly stands up, leaving peonies at the base of your gravestone. "I love you (y/n). I'll see you next year." He says softly, before turning away, wiping away the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes.
